This past long weekend saw the men get back in the win column and collect three points with a 5-0 win on the road in Brampton against ProStars FC.
The Rovers had five different goal scorers on the night and played a full 90 minutes, according to coach Jason Beckford.
“Very pleased with the three points and how we finished our chances tonight. We put them away at the right time, and the goals changed the complexion of the game and let us play our brand of football," Beckford said.
The men hope to build momentum moving forward and into their next match.
The women lost an extremely tight game, 2-0, at home against Alliance United.
“The performance was there for all to see," said head coach Dave Kelly. “The players created multiple chances, and on a different day, we could have four or five goals as we did in the opener.
“We will keep working on evolving our process and working towards our goals for the season," Kelly added.
As we move into the back half of May, the Simcoe County Rovers have some exciting events lined up in the coming weeks.
May 28 is our second doubleheader at home this young season. The women kick things off at 2:30 p.m. as they take on Darby FC, and the men follow at 6:30 p.m. when they take on Electric City in what should be entertaining matches.
May 28 is Latin Day at J.C. Massie Field, and the atmosphere will be electric as we celebrate Latin culture with the Simcoe County Rovers community. Fans arriving with a Latin flag can buy tickets at the gate for 50 per cent off.
Come hungry, as Mexican House will be on-site with a taco stand serving up various crowd pleasers, which will no doubt be mouth-watering and delicious! To help work off some of those calories, Salsa Beats will pump a Latin-inspired playlist throughout the day and will perform at halftime of both the women’s and the men’s game which will be sure to get the crowd moving and grooving!
To cap it all off, there will be a player meet and greet and photo opportunity at the end of the women’s and men’s games for our amazing fans.
“We’re committed to our community and building relationships with fans. With events like Latin Night on May 28, we hope to engage and attract new audiences to watch our men’s and women’s teams play," says president Julian de Guzman. “Having proudly represented Canada internationally in countries like Honduras, Mexico and Nicaragua, I experienced the passion the fans bring firsthand and the electric atmosphere that comes with it."
